VWS Subsidy for the Vaccine Academy

For this purpose, a grant for the duration of 5 years was funded to Biotech Training Facility. In the period 2023 - 2028 a Vaccine Academy will be realized, whith the following programs:

Job seekers program

The job seekers program has been set up for HBO & WO level educated graduates without GMP knowledge that would like to switch to a job in the Bioscience Industry.

The following two English-language training programs have been set up for this target group:

• GMP and Vaccine Production Essentials
  A GMP bootcamp with an intensive GMP eLearning program and a full day of GMP in practice in the cleanrooms of Biotech Training Facility.

• GMP and Pharmaceutical Quality Control
  A full day about Quality control preceded by an intensive GMP eLearning program.

Program for unemployed people

In collaboration with the “Werkgeversservicepunt - Holland Rijnland”, an extensive 5-day training program for unemployed people or people who want to make a career switch to the Bio Science Industry has been developed. And proven to be very successful.

During the training, the trainees learn the basics about GMP and Vaccine production so they have a better chance of finding a job in this industry. The training ends with a Meet & Greet with employers that have been asked to join the program. In average 50% of the trainees finds a job in the Bioscience Industry.

Training program for MBO students

 For the MBO studies Biological Medical Analist or Chemical Physical Analist, Biotech Training Facility offers:

• A Good Manufacturing Day (GMP) for second year students covering the basics of GMP, cleanroom gowning, a Pharma Mystery game and our unique cleanESCAPEroom

• A Quality day for third year students covering critical thinking, deviations and out of specifications, pharmaceutical documentation and audits & inspections.

Currently MBO Rijnland and ROC Midden Nederland have incorporated the GMP day in their curriculum. And MBO Rijnland has incorporated the Quality day. More MBO institutes will be contacted to offer these 2 training programs.

Training program for HBO students

For the HBO studies Biology and Medical Laboratory investigation, Biotech Training Facility offers:

1)       An introduction to working in a cleanroom (0,5 day) for second or third year HBO students

2)       A two-day program: “ Working in the Biofarmaceutical Industry” for third year HBO students

Both programs have been followed by third year students from the study Biology and Medical Laboratory investigation from HBO Leiden. More HBO institutes will be contacted to offer these 2 training programs.

Training program for University students

The first 2 editions for second year master students of the University of Leiden and the LUMC following the elective course “Practical aspects of Quality Management in Pharma and Biotech” have been successfully completed.

This elective course is offered to students of BPS (Bio Pharmaceutical Sciences), BMS (Bio Medical Sciences), Chemistry and Life Science Technology (University Leiden and Technical University of Delft). As part of this elective course, the following topics will be given by Biotech Training Facility:

• Intro to GMP

• GMP Masterclass

• GMP in Pharmaceutical Development

• Intro to Upstream processing

• Intro to Downstream processing

• Microbial Control

• Vaccine development

• Advanced Therapeutic Medicinal Products

Start-up companies in the area of vaccine development, analysis and production,  can participate in the following courses free of charge:

• Aseptic techniques in an isolator

• Microbial Control in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing / Annex 1

• Biopharmaceutical Technology Transfer

• GMP in Biopharmaceutical Development

 The following additional conditions apply:

• The start-up company should not be older than 5 years

• The company can follow 2 training courses with 2 employees per course

• Lunch costs are 15 euro per person
